It's Been A While

Well... that totally rotted. I had a post all ready to go and then it deleted! Arggggghhhh. Anyway, I haven't posted in a while for a couple of reasons.

First, it is way to cold to post anything. It hasn't been into the positive numbers on the thermometer since Sunday. I am still wondering how I chose chilly Wisconsin and a job over working at Wal-Mart and Florida? I'm beginning to rethink my choice now.

Secondly, I've been sick. Now I'm not usually one to get sick, only one day missed in 14 years of teaching. I had a fever and chills on Sunday which the morphed its way into being congested on Monday and Tuesday. I took some NyQuil (good stuff) last night and that really seemed to help. I got in a workout tonight which felt good so I should be ship shape by Friday.

Finally, not much is going on here. It is kind of the dead season for family things. We had dinner with my parents on Monday for my mom's birthday but that is about it. Owen hasn't hurt himself lately either!

I hope all is well with everybody else!

School Pictures

I just thought I would share a picture of the little dude Liam. This is his PreK4 school picture. Isn't he a cute little guy.

Official

On January 25th we were able to go to court and finalize Owen's adoption. We had to go down to the Racine Courthouse since our homestudy expired on January 26th. Once a month a judge comes to Burlington and that is where we did Liams. That also makes Owen an official citizen of the United States. We have a couple things still to do. We need to get a certificate of citizenship for Owen and then we need to get birth certificates for both Liam and Owen with their citizenship number on the back. Only one picture right now, I'm waiting for more from my mother.

Snow Day

Today we had a snow day. The National Weather Service had been predicting up to 20" but we didn't get quite that much. More in the area of 10-14". It was actually a pretty nice day outside and Liam and I spent some time building a snow fort. Well actually, I spent the majority of time doing that while he threw snowballs at me. Still a lot to shovel, but a fun day outside nontheless.

Liam

Owen was digging through Liam's backpack and all his papers came flying out. I thought this one of him writing his name was pretty cool.

There Is Still Hope For Me

As most of you know, I am an avid golfer. My dream: to play Augusta National. Liam and Owen are now my only hope of that happening. I informed Liam the other day that if he gets on tour I am carrying his clubs. He agreed, but was a little confused I think.

I have never had a hole in one. About 8 years ago I came about 6 inches away at Lexington Oaks, in Wesley Chapel, FL. I came about 8 inches away at Trappers Turn in the Wisconsin Dells about 7 or 8 years ago and two years ago I came 2 inches away at Hawk View in Lake Geneva, WI. Someday. Anyway, interesting article below.

Legally blind golfer scores hole-in-one at Florida's Cove Cay CC

Associated Press CLEARWATER, Fla. -- A hole-in-one is rare on the golf course, but what are the odds of a blind golfer sinking one?

Leo Fiyalko couldn't see it, but his golf buddies did -- a hole-in-one on the fifth hole at the Cove Cay Country Club.
Fiyalko is 92 and has macular degeneration. He's been golfing for 60 years, but his 110-yard shot with a 5-iron on Jan. 10 was his first hole-in-one.

"I was just trying to put the ball on the green," Fiyalko said.

Fiyalko tees off every Thursday with a group of golfers ranging in age from 70 to 90-plus. He used to have a seven handicap, but now he needs help lining up his shots and finding his golf balls because he only has peripheral vision in his right eye.

Jean Gehring was playing in his foursome and watched Fiyalko's swing. "I could tell it went on the green, [but] when we got up there I didn't see it. I looked in the hole and there it was," Gehring said.

Gehring said Fiyalko brushed off the feat, and had to be prodded to tell his wife about it at the end of the round.
Fiyalko's friends at the country club presented him with a plaque last week to commemorate the feat.
